This workshop is intended to be an open review and discussion about aging adults and how sexuality is a part of their lives. Social workers will understand how to talk about sensitive issues related to sex and how it can impact client systems, senior living centers and human service agencies. Sex can be a positive or negative experience and we will explore how social workers can be a vital alley with clients regardless of their cognitive and functional abilities.
Learning Objectives:
1. Normalize for professionals the topic of sexuality with the aging population
2. Address how professionals can help advocate for clients
3. Understand how our own biases effect our clients and what we can do to minimize stigma and stereotypes
Presenter: Julie Weckel, LMSW, ACSW. Julie has worked extensively with the aging population for over 20 years. She has spoken on several age-related topics to professionals, community members, and clients. Julie currently runs her own private practice, Geriatric Connections, out of Berrien County.
