Description

The emergence of cyber addictions, such as Internet Use Disorder, Nomophobia, Digital Dementia, Photo-Taking Disorder, as well as the delivery of mental health and other support services via information and communication technologies (ICTs) have resulted in social workers’ need to be aware of ethical dilemmas and practice considerations. This workshop will briefly discuss innovative treatment approaches rooted in technology and ethical challenges social workers should be aware of when engaging clients/potential clients in cyberspace.
 
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the impact of transformational technology on the Social Work profession
2. Recognize the impact of social media and the Internet on society (addictions/chronic use and abuse)
3. Understand ethical challenges associated with social work practice in an online environment (will discuss the status of the ASWB Model Regulatory Standards for Technology and Social Work Practice)
 
Presenter: Janet M. Joiner, PhD, LMSW is Chair and Assistant Professor in the University of Detroit Mercy Social Work Department. She also serves as Executive Director of the Institute for Cyber Social Work, an organization committed to advancing the study of Electronic Social Work in direct practice and higher education.

 

Once registering and paying for the course you will get access to view the webinar (through a downloadable pdf file), as well as receive a link to complete the post test. Attendees need to answer 80% of the content questions correctly in order to receive credit for the course. All continuing education certificates will be emailed within 30 days of completion of the post test.

Continuing Education: 1 Ethics CE is available for social workers. $19 for NASW members, $29 for non-members.

 

NASW-Michigan is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative, Provider Number MICEC-0017. This program is approved for 1.0 social work ethics continuing education clock hour. Social workers (under the new General Rules) can earn up to half (22.5) of the required 45 hours of continuing education through alternative learning methods, such as this webinar.
