This webinar will provide an overview of the issue of youth in Michigan’s adult criminal justice system, and the consequences which often result from the practice of automatic adult prosecution at the age of 17. Additionally, the presenter will detail the effort currently underway to raise the age of juvenile jurisdiction from 17 to 18.

Learning Objectives: 
Better understand the pathways that lead youth into the adult criminal justice system and the consequences of this practice.
2. Learn about the legislative changes that are being considered to reduce the number youth entering the adult justice system.
3. Attendees will learn how they may become involved in the campaign to raise the age of juvenile jurisdiction from 17 to 18 in Michigan

Once registering and paying for the course you will get access to view the webinar (through a downloadable pdf file), as well as receive a link to complete the post test. Attendees need to answer 80% of the content questions correctly in order to receive credit for the course. All continuing education certificates will be emailed within 30 days of completion of the post test.

Continuing Education: 1 CE is available for social workers. $19 for NASW members, $29 for non-members.


NASW-Michigan is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative, Provider Number MICEC-0017. This program is approved for 1.0 social work ethics continuing education clock hour. Social workers (under the new General Rules) can earn up to half (22.5) of the required 45 hours of continuing education through alternative learning methods, such as this webinar.
